Advise Jailbreaking

I was planning to do it by my self.

Just curious what kind of materials/tools i need?

Well. The youtube videos, that completely depends on your version, If you have 4.0 - 4.10 - 4.11 then you cant jailbreak at the moment, however you can downgrade to 3.55 by buying an e3 flasher, Quite expensive from what i've heard, I personally would rather wait untill 4.11 is ready to be jailbroken

Its so simple now a days...Hope your firmware, i mean your ps3's firmware is below 3.55, just google for ofw (official firmware) 3.55, download it, get a usb flash drive (Fat 32 formated) make a folder 'PS3' at root then make another folder 'UPDATE' inside the PS3 folder. When you will download ofw you will get a file named 'PS3UPDAT.PUP'. Put it in UPDATE folder of ur flash drive then plug it into your ps3 and go to the system update under XMB. Once update is done, remove the flash drive and delete the .PUP file (or save it somewhere if you want to keep it). Now you are on ofw 3.55, you can download cfw (custom firmware) to play games on the hard disk.

To install cfw google for Kmeaw's prepatched cfw. Because it is the most stable cfw. Download it. You will find a file having the same name like PS3UPDAT.PUP (if not renamed by someone). Put it in the folder UPDATE of your flash drive. Now go into recovery menu (google it to know how to go to the recovery menu, its easy), select system update in recovery menu, ps3 will start update. Once done, you are on cfw! Now you can play backup games...
[Note: I suggest you to create a backup before installing any firmware to avoid any loss of media like music although installing any firmware will not harm ps3]
You can simply go back to ofw 3.55 by installing ofw .PUB file via recovery menu.But when you are on cfw, you are not allowed to access psn (PlayStation Network) or to play online, if you do so, psn will ban you forever, psn doesnt care... Also, there are lots of methods out of the internet saying you can go to psn while on cfw by this trick, that trick, but i suggest you not to do so, because every second psn tries to block such tricks and you may never know will you will get banned by psn. If you update your system to 3.56 or above than 3.55, you will not be able to downgrade it, or you will harm your console.
