So why would I make my own LP to direct visitors to the advertisers LP when I can just use direct linking?

Using a landing page will usually result in higher conversion rates than direct linking. And yes, sometimes Direct Linking can also works great. You should always split test between landing pages and direct linking to see which one brings you the best results. :D
