Me and a friend did this a while ago, we waited until ebay did one of their special offers with listing fees (recently there was a under £0.99 start bids are free). Posted something useless as a private auction and then bid on it with fake acounts. this way we had no ebay fees, and if you accept postal orders/checks/cash on pickup theres no need for paypal and their fees. so its free feedback.

This is the UK ebay, but can't imagine US is much different.
