what is music - xsolo6x - 10-20-2011 10:23 PM

In today's music you find what most of today's youth is either rap or pop. to me rap is int music, let me correct myself most of today's rap is not music to me. Yes i'm a metal head, no i'm not telling you to listen to metal n that's the only good music out there i'm gonna say that some bands don't deserve to b in the category of music. Before where rap actually came out i here that they had meaning. That brings me to the point of what is music, music is when instruments are being played in harmony to each outer that has had the time taken to be composed and truly has a meaning to it. Any old idiot can write a few words n sing or say them to a beat it, but it takes real time n dedication to make something meaningful and so many of today's generation ignore it. post what you think. :D

Um music is the emotional attachment to outside sound stimulation. It isn't necessarily instruments being played in harmonies. It is any sound that can affect living things on an emotional level.
The reason we have rhythm and beat in music (yes and harmony) is due to the human body being in sync with the heart, which has a particular beat. Music, to be music, must either be rhythmic, or dis-rhythmic. This is when the beat is in time with the heart or not. Some people don't like "hardcore music" like rap, rock and heavy pop or electronic tracks, because they are dis-rhythmic. One of the most famous songs to show dis-rhythmic music is Queens - We Will Rock You.
Rhythmic music is music such as country, symphonies and ballads. Also most soft rock.

Music is music no matter how much skill it takes to create, as long as it can evoke an emotional feeling in someone else. Also music doesn't have to have an obvious or even deep meaning, as much as we might like it too.

As a fellow metal head, and all around music lover, it breaks my heart to see the path the popular music is taking these days and the shallowness of the lyrics and sound content makes my ears ache. But i can't deny that it is music.
It may not be meaningful, but it is music.

Rap is and has always promoted street violence, usage of drugs and prostitution.

Pop is the nemesis of good music ssuch as grunge, metal and punk rock.
